Strawberries are my favorite fruit. I had a hard time limiting my list from 40-plus to just 20 ways to use strawberries. So I made sure we stocked up on all the tools that make cooking with strawberries fun and easy. I also read up on these beautiful fruits.

Did you know…??

  • Strawberries should be eaten as soon as possible and should not be washed until they are ready to eat.
  • Strawberries are extremely fragile. They should be placed in a single layer on a paper towel in an airtight container and stored in the refrigerator for 2 to 3 days.
  • Molded or damaged strawberries should be removed as not to ruin others.
  • Unwashed or unhulled strawberries should be kept in a sealed container to prevent unnecessary loss of humidity.
  • Room temperature or exposure to sunlight for a long time can cause spoilage.
  • The bright red colored conical strawberry is a member of the rose family and has been grown in the wild for centuries.
  • The smaller varieties have a stronger flavor than the bigger ones.
  • Strawberries are rich in vital nutrients, vitamins, minerals and antioxidants with benefits for health, skin and hair.
  • A strawberry is the only fruit whose seeds are visible from outside.
  • Some ripe strawberry fruits are off white or yellowish in color.
  • The name strawberry is a misnomer as it is not a berry at all. It is considered an accessory fruit.
  • A strawberry is an aggregate of several small fruits each containing one seed called ‘aching.’
